This earthquake occurred on the Atlantic Ocean floor in deep water east of the continental shelf. While quite close to our location, it was not felt here. Since the quake was centered on fairly young oceanic crust, seismic waves would not propagate as well as they would in other parts of eastern North America where rocks are old and hard.
